Introduction

Digital Literacy Class: We are going to learn about so many incredible ways to be creative, collaborative, and to communicate. We will focus on computer skills and applications. Some topics you already know about, and you will know better, and other topics and applications will be new to you! Either way, we will work together to find the ones you are able to use best. This class consists of Project-Based-Learning. You will be given plenty of time to learn the skills and applications that you will use for a lifetime. I hope you enjoy the material we will cover. - Mr. S

ACADEMIC/LEARNING OBJECTIVE

(SEE SPECIFIC PROJECT OBJECTIVES BELOW)

Students (TEMPLE) will give MyBio Presentations to class for credit.

Students (ALL CLASSES) will advance their knowledge of computer programming experiences by completing a short, digital animation project online and sharing it with fellow classmates.

STUDENTS WILL ENTER THE CLASS QUIETLY AND BEGIN WORKING!

STUDENTS MUST START BY READING ALL DIRECTIONS ON CLASS WEBSITE!

Students (TEMPLE) will finish creating and sharing the 10-slide presentations about themselves in Google Drive.  They will then give the presentations in class to their peers.

Students (ALL CLASSES) will follow online instructions to complete a digital animation programming project in SCRATCH.  Peer mentoring and other supports will ensure that all students have access to information and programming tools.

Today, using the tools provided online, you will learn to program an animated cartoon.  You must create an account (USE YOUR CROSSROADS EMAIL ADDRESS) on the website above.  Once created, go to the "Try It Out" link and work through each learning level listed.  You will learn to create a digital animation sequence.  The programming is actually writing "JAVA-Script", but you are creating it with BLOCKLEY Visual Programming Language.  You will work to create the following:

ONCE YOU HAVE CREATED AN ACCOUNT,  CLICK THE "HELP" LINK AND THEN USE THE "STEP BY STEP INTRO" TO LEARN HOW TO USE THE SITE TO CREATE DIGITAL ANIMATIONS.

Today's Objectives:

  1. Students
will be able to state what Scratch is

  2. Students
will be able to identify main parts of Scratch

  3. Students
will be able to put together a short Scratch animation

Activity:

Create a Scratch animated clip at least 20
