GarageBand - Day II

All:

Today we will continue looking at GarageBand!  I will show you how to open the application and navigate around for the first few minutes of the class.  You will then have the remainder of class to create a new song for yourself.  You will be using part of this song for your IMovie Project on Monday.  Make sure you figure out how to start a project, work with loops, save a project, and export it to your desktop.  You will also need to post a link to your finished song on your weebly website for credit.  Refer to any of the videos and help items in yesterday's post!

Now that you have a basic idea how to navigate around the GarageBand
application, please create a music track at least 25 seconds long for
use in an IMovie project coming up.  You need to use at least three
different loops to create the song.  I would suggest Percussion, Bass,
and any other loop of your choice.  It can be slow or fast and have any
theme you like.  Try to create it to reflect your personality or have a
mood of some kind.  It can be scary, funny, happy, sad, melodramatic,
suspenseful, or just plain.  When you are finished creating the music
track you must SHARE it by EXPORTing it to DISK.  Place it on your
desktop as an MP3 file.  Now you are ready to open your GDrive and
UPLOAD the file online.  Once you have finished the UPLOAD, please SHARE
the MP3 file with me by hitting the SHARE button and entering my email
address.  You should also COPY the web address (Top Of The Share Box)
and change the Permission for this file to ANYONE WITH LINK.  You can
now put a link to this file on your Weebly.com Website by adding a word
or picture and applying a link.  I will show everyone how to do this in
class.

Follow these steps in class to complete this assignment:

  1. Open GarageBand

  2. Click NEW PROJECT

  3. Open LOOPS Project

  4. Create Music with at least 3 loops (minimum)

  5. Save Project to Desktop (Create a File on desktop for your stuff)

  6. Click SHARE above project and select EXPORT TO DISK

  7. EXPORT an MP3 Version of your music to Desktop

  8. Open Web Browser (Firefox)

  9. Sign In To GDRIVE

  10. Click the RED UP ARROW next to the CREATE button

  11. Upload your MP3 to your GDrive

  12. Click the new file listed in your GDrive

  13. Click the SHARE button.

  14. Change WHO HAS ACCESS to Anyone With Link

  15. Add hscribnercaa@gmail.com to SHARE email list on bottom.

  16. COPY link for file at top of SHARE box.

  17. Open new Tab in Browser

  18. Open Weebly.com Website and Sign In

  19. Open your Weebly.com Website in Edit Mode

  20. On your HOME Page drag a New TITLE Box into the Home Page

  21. Type Garageband MP3 then drag the cursor over the words to highlight it.

  22. Look for the LINK symbol in the Toolbar.

  23. Click it and PASTE your weblink (From SHARE Page) into the box.

  24. Check the box for open in New Window

  25. Hit OK

Once you are finished with these steps, you should now Publish your
website (Yellow PUBLISH Button) in the top, right corner.  Then click
the link to your active website and make sure your new link works.  Once
your link is active, you have finished today's assignment.

Good Luck!

GarageBand Introduction - Day I

Today Everyone will be working with Mrs. Cohen to review and understand your Official School Transcripts.  This will help you figure out which high schools to apply for.  Please take some time to review your information continue the high school application process we started yesterday.

Once you have completed this, follow the directions below to begin creating music with GarageBand.  If you have already used this program, it is your obligation in class to help others.  YOU MAY ONLY USE GARAGEBAND.  YOU MAY NOT LISTEN TO MP3's OR OTHER COMMERCIALLY AVAILABLE MUSIC.  Tomorrow I will show you some websites to download sounds and other music that might be interesting.  Today is your day to familiarize yourself with how the program works, and how to navigate around the different toolboxes.  Save anything that you want to keep by uploading files to your Google Drive.  Because other students use these computers, there is no guarantee that your work will be here tomorrow.

Good Luck!

High School Choice 2014

Today Everyone will be discussing the High School Choice Process for the School District of Philadelphia.  Mrs. Cohen will be presenting how to apply to high schools, how to get your parents to approve your choices, and how to access the School District of Philadelphia website.  Please use the following links to help you along the way:

Are you ready to apply?  Click Here To Log Into SchoolNet and Get Started!

You will need to get your parent/guardian permission to finish the application process.  Tomorrow we will go over your transcripts!  Most of the staff here at Crossroads are willing to write a Letter of Reference, but you need to ask.  You need to make sure you are finishing your work, coming to school on-time and every day.  Your transcripts from last year mean a lot, but a letter from us may help get you in.  Do your best, stay out of trouble, and let us help you help yourself!

Good Luck!

12x12x12 and TypingWeb

Hello All:

Today you will be reading the following passage:

12 x 12 x 12 IMPRESSIONS

12 by 12 by 12 is the distance you are being judged by the people you meet every day of every week of every year of your life.

Your first impression starts 12 feet away. This is the distance people see what you are wearing and how you are acting. This is the first chance you have to make sure that people see you in a positive, accepting light.

At 12 inches away you are now about to speak. People will notice the minute details of the way your face looks as you smile, frown, or grimace. People are judging your looks, your demeanor, and the way you carry yourself. The
way you shake a hand, smell to others, and present yourself are now
under the microscope and you should be aware that what you are about to
say will forever place a note in people’s head about your level of
maturity.

Finally, the first 12 words you speak are a reflection of your heritage, upbringing, and education level. Whether you like it or not, the person you are interacting with is taking a mental picture of you for future reference. What kind of picture have you given them? How can you make a difference in how you appear? The mark we leave on the world is a made up of the thousands of appearances in other people’s memories. How you are perceived by others is the only yardstick we are all measured equally by. Make your impression a positive lasting one with others, and you will make your world a better place live in.

Once you have read the passage above (12x12x12) please open your Weebly.com Journal and write, in your own words, how you will change the way you act because of what you read.  Please write 3-4 sentences about how this will impact you and the impression you leave with others.

Once you have completed your journal entry, you will work quietly on learning to type:

You will sign in using the Username: firstinitiallastnamex and your Student ID# as your password.  See the example below:

EXAMPLE ---->   Username:  hscribnerx  Password:  1234567

Start with each lesson in order.  Make sure your are resting your fingers on the HOME KEYS while you type and trying your best to use all of your fingers to reach the appropriate keys.  The training program will identify the proper fingers to use to reach each key while you type.  Work through as many of the lessons as possible!

Good Luck!
