Introduction to Google Drive 2016

ACADEMIC/LEARNING OBJECTIVE

Students
will learn to use Google Drive to Create, Collaborate, and Store
Documents and Files for Class.  Students will understand that this or
Gmail is the ONLY way to turn in assignments unless specific
instructions offer additional options for each project.

STUDENTS MUST START BY READING ALL DIRECTIONS ON CLASS WEBSITE!

Students
will SIGN IN to their Google Account.  Students will create a NEW
Google Document to use as a Technology Journal.  Students will learn how
to upload files and create new documents.  Students will participate in
a collaboration project to find out how to work on documents together
in real time.





We will be learning how to use our new Google Drive to Create, Save, Store and Collaborate on documents and projects.



This
Google Account (Gmail and Google Docs) is your Personal-Professional
account.  It is only to be used for school, and will stay with you for
as long as you are a student here at Universal Education.
 Your account will be active up to two years after you graduate or leave the district.  Today
you will create two documents!  Please follow the directions below to
complete your work today.



To create a NEW document in your Google Drive, you must sign in to your Google account as follows:



Go to Google.Com and click the SIGN IN button in the upper right corner. 



Students simply log in using their @ucvare.org email address and password, which for students is their StudentID#@ucvare.org (######@ucvare.org).  You should have created a password when you signed in the first time last week.  Anyone who needs a password reset (for any reason) will be charged 25-cents per request.  The money raised will help offset the cost of new technology equipment, and keep students from FORGETTING this important password!



In
the upper right corner of your screen you should see a small grid of
little boxes ("the waffle").  This is your link to other Google Applications.  Please
choose the button for your Google Drive.  You can now select the NEW
button (Red Button Upper Left Side of the Screen).  This will allow you
to create Documents, Spreadsheets, Presentations, and upload files.  We
will discuss each today.



Your
project today is to create a NEW Google Document and name it
"Technology Journal".  Once created, you will create your first post
(See Instructions Below).  Any time you are in class, and you are
instructed to create a Journal Entry, you will use the following format:

(Body of Post)



Each
entry will be made at the top of the page so the entries "push" each
other down the page.  Your most recent entry will be at the top, and
other entries will be listed in chronological order.



When instructed, please copy the following items into your first, newly created Google Document (Technology Journal):

Please SHARE the link to your new "Journal" document with MR. S for credit.  During
the next class you will be writing a one-page Autobiography of yourself
and you will be creating a basic Google Presentation to present to the
class.

Scholars will learn sign into GMail and send an Email to the instructor for credit.  Scholars will use Google Classroom to find assignment instructions.  Finally, Scholars will complete an online survey to provide contact information.

SCHOLARS WILL ENTER THE CLASS QUIETLY AND BEGIN WORKING!

Scholars will sign into GMail, open Google Classroom, and follow all directions listed there.  Scholars must be able to successfully remember all passwords they create to access online content in our class.  Scholars must successfully send an email with a picture file attached to Mr. S.  Scholars must CITE their source in the body of the email.  Students will complete an online survey to wrap-up the lesson.

Peer Mentoring will be used to help each other master the program.

Today you will learn to send an email.  You can use the training video
below to help you.  Your assignment has two steps.  You need to send Mr.
S and email with a picture attached.  You must copy and paste the link
to the picture in the body of the email for credit, and CITE where you
found it online.  You need to find a picture online at Google Images and
SAVE the Picture to your DESKTOP so you can ATTACH it to your Gmail to
me for credit.

you have completed this assignment, you must also complete the survey
below (or on your Google Classroom page).  Click the link to the survey and fill in your Name, Student ID# ,
UCVare Gmail Address, and any other personal email address you may
have.  This contact information is only shared with members of the staff
here.  I will use your cell phone and personal email for emergency
contact only.  You must also write about some topics you would like to
see covered in our STEM Class over the next few months.

Today you will sign into your VARE Google Account and send and email to Mr. S for credit.

GMAIL SETUP





Go to Google.Com and click the SIGN IN button in the upper right corner.



Students simply log in using their (STUDENT ID#)@ucvare.org email address and password, which for students is



UCTech16



You will need to choose a new PASSWORD once you have logged in!  Make sure you can remember it because you will need to log into this GMail account every day when you come into class.









Send Mr. S and Email and introduce yourself.  Get to know about your email account.



GOOGLE CLASSROOM 



Once you are signed into your GMail Account, you must now open a NEW TAB on your browser.  Type classroom.google.com into the address bar and hit ENTER or RETURN.  You will be prompted to tell Google Classroom that you are a STUDENT, and you will need to enter the Class Code shown on the screen to join our class.  Once there, follow the directions to answer your first response question for credit today.  You will receive points for signing into GMail, for joining the correct Google Classroom, and for completing the response question completely!

CONSTRUCTED RESPONSE PASSAGE:

12 x 12 x 12 IMPRESSIONS 

12 by 12 by 12 is the distance you are being judged by the people you meet every day of every week of every year of your life.


Your first impression starts 12 feet
away. This is the distance people see what you are wearing and how you
are acting. This is the first chance you have to make sure that people
see you in a positive, accepting light.


At 12 inches away you are now about
to speak. People will notice the minute details of the way your face
looks as you smile, frown, or grimace. People are judging your looks,
your demeanor, and the way you carry yourself. The
way you shake a hand, smell to others, and present yourself are now
under the microscope and you should be aware that what you are about to
say will forever place a note in people’s head about your level of
maturity.


Finally, the first 12 words you speak
are a reflection of your heritage, upbringing, and education level.
Whether you like it or not, the person you are interacting with is
taking a mental picture of you for future reference. What kind of
picture have you given them? How can you make a difference in how you
appear? The mark we leave on the world is a made up of the thousands of
appearances in other people’s memories. How you are perceived by
others is the only yardstick we are all measured equally by. Make your
impression a positive lasting one with others, and you will make your
world a better place live in.
